Hello everyone 👋
I’m making this commitment: this will be my last Monday newsletter. Trying to take this week to get my life back on track and regain some of my lost motivation to be honest. Hopefully your past week as been at least a tad bit better than mine!
Life on Pause
This past week, my family and our family friend went up to Blue Mountain, Ontario for a few days — and man oh man, was that trip much needed. It was honestly just so good to just get away for a couple of days and take some time off apart from the stress and demands of life, work, and my future.
During that time, I was able to hit the pause button and basically just live in the moment, spending the majority of the time outdoors with my family and just enjoying the decent weather we had up there. It was very much freeing in a sense.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m trying to live more in the moment and appreciate the value of spontaneity, albeit COVID and my workload makes it quite difficult. I’ve always found that my schedule was really dictated by the meetings or deadlines that I had to meet, and it’s a subpar standard that I’d want to hold out for myself. I was somewhat reflecting upon this during my time up at Blue.
What I was unfortunately realizing was that I was losing motivation to do a lot of the things I had previously been extremely excited about. To no one/thing’s fault however, but rather a cumulative effort of taking on too much and not having the bandwidth to focus on each of them as much as I would like. When I took a step back from work life in Toronto and essentially escaped to Blue Mountain, I realized how much I was demanding from myself that wasn’t really realistic.
Moments like these — moments of periodic reflection — is something that I’ve been missing throughout my life. Too many times I let the waves of work and busyness push me and often clouding my immediate priorities and goals. That’s why I’m looking forward to attempting extreme ownership this next month: including daily journaling, being extremely mindful of where my time is going, and making sure that I am fully committed to everything that I am currently taking on.
There’s always that fine balance between putting in a lot of work (your investment for your future), but also living in the moment and enjoying your youth. More on this next week, but my belief is that the first step in maintaining that equilibrium is simply taking a look at yourself in the mirror.
Oh and taking a step back too. It doesn’t have to be Blue Mountain, but just some time off from the busyness of life.
